VS Code and Copilot.
Install the server for Copilot's agent mode; VS Code runs the sign-in on first use.
Install#
Install in VS Code or, from a browser without VS Code's link handler, install through vscode.dev. The link carries only the URL, never a key. The first time Copilot calls a tool, VS Code asks to sign in: a metasearch.sh page opens where you sign in, pick the organisation that pays, and allow access.
From a terminal:
$ code --add-mcp '{"name":"metasearch","type":"http","url":"https://metasearch.sh/mcp"}'Or in your user configuration (the command palette's MCP: Open User Configuration), or a workspace's .vscode/mcp.json:
{
"servers": {
"metasearch": {
"type": "http",
"url": "https://metasearch.sh/mcp"
}
}
}In Copilot Chat, switch to agent mode and the search and fetch tools appear in the tools picker. Manage the sign-in under the Accounts menu.
With an API key#
VS Code can prompt for a key once and store it securely instead:
{
"inputs": [
{
"type": "promptString",
"id": "metasearch-api-key",
"description": "metasearch.sh API key",
"password": true
}
],
"servers": {
"metasearch": {
"type": "http",
"url": "https://metasearch.sh/mcp",
"headers": {
"Authorization": "Bearer ${input:metasearch-api-key}"
}
}
}
}The tools and prices are on the MCP server page.
