Gemini CLI.

Install the extension#

$ gemini extensions install https://github.com/paperfoot/search-cli

The extension adds the server and a short guide telling Gemini when to search and which mode to ask for. Start gemini and sign in:

/mcp auth metasearch

A metasearch.sh page opens: sign in, pick the organisation that pays, and allow access. /mcp then lists search and fetch. Update with gemini extensions update metasearch.

Without the extension#

$ gemini mcp add --transport http metasearch https://metasearch.sh/mcp

Then sign in with /mcp auth metasearch as above.

With an API key#

For headless runs, send a key from the environment in ~/.gemini/settings.json:
